It is with excitement that we welcome the 32nd season of West Chester Dance Works. Three of our four groups are in place and ready launch into the upcoming performances and events. While we sometimes have a slowdown in the summer, this year the Junior Performers (JPs), DM Dance Machine (DMs) and the Signature/Training Company each had enriching community performances.
The JPs and DMs did an outreach engagement at Kennett Square High School for the Extended School Year program servicing special
needs students. Through this performance, students from kindergarten through 12th grade received dance exposure that guided them through a day in the life of a dancer. The students even joined in to warm up with the group.
Our second summer performance occurred in the Valley Forge National Park Education Center as a part of the “Voices of Valley Forge” Summer Workshop Series. Members from the Signature/Training Company worked with storyteller Phil Richard to bring history to life. It was an excellent collaboration as the audience was dramatically ushered back in history to understand, little known facts of the diversity and struggles of those fighting for freedom in the Valley Forge region during the 18th and 19th centuries.
West Chester Dance Works is looking forward to continued opportunities in the 2014-15 season. All our groups endeavor to continue using dance as communication and to reach audiences throughout the Delaware Valley. Come to our Volunteer/Donor Appreciation and Preview to get the first look of the new dance season; Friday, October 17, 6:30 pm at Milestone Events, 600 E. Market Street, West Chester Pa, 19382.
